The Torah Academy high school girls were surprised with a field trip to Julington Durbin Creek Nature Preserve where they learned about the local plants and wildlife.
Guided by local expert Ayolani the girls learned about how to identify different leaves by paying attention to the shape, the edge of the leaf, how many leaves there are per stem, whether there are thorns and so much more! They learned how to identify poison ivy as well.
The girls also got to try out sugar cane from the plant itself and were shown how to easily propagate it! They also saw rare plants that are seasonal and learned about the medicinal purposes for lesser known plants.
