My 3 Favorite Jacksonville Beaches

Updated: Jun 17

By Breindy Lazor

Florida and beaches almost seem to be synonymous with one another, but one of the best parts about Jacksonville is that our beaches are not only beautiful and expansive, but plentiful.  There are so many kinds of beaches that it's easy to find the one that fits our family's needs, and yours!

First up, Atlantic Beach is one of our family's favorites.  It's the traditional beach, filled with soft sand along the coastline that extends for miles.  Whenever we go, it's easy to find areas with families if we want to socialize as well as areas that are less inhabited if we want to have a quieter, family-only time.  Of notable mention and part of Atlantic Beach, but awesome enough to be its own destination, is Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park.  The park has miles of trails for families who enjoy biking or hiking, a splash pad for kids to cool down, and a lake with kayak rentals.

Further north is another beautiful beach located on Big Talbot Island.  The main feature is the awesome view of Boneyard Beach. The beach is so unique, with beautiful oaks lying on the clean sand, their branches extending in every direction.  The kids and adults loved the walking path that led to the beach and there are some very cool photo opportunities there!

Finally, another must see beach is in Ponte Vedra.  The water at this beach is known to be crystal clear and the drive on the A1A provides stunning views of luxurious beach houses and golf courses.  Before we even parked and got out of the car, we enjoyed the scenic drive alongside the beach.  There are also hiking trails on the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Research Reserve and the Guana River that have observation towers for bird-watching or just getting a beautiful view of the reserve and its marshes right across from the beach!

For individuals or families who want beach variety and the opportunity to explore, Jacksonville has both beaches that offer sand and surf as well as beaches that offer all that and more.  Check us out to see for yourself!
